This is my watercolor painting of the Thanjaimamani Kovil near Tanjore using Camlin Watercolors on Chitrapath Paper. The temple entrance as seen above, is really magnificent.
This temple has three shrines and hence, three main deities, Neelamega Perumal and Senkamalavalli in one shrine; Manikundra Perumal and Ambujavalli in the second and, Narasimha Perumal and Thanjainayaki in the third.
Legend says that three Asuras by the name Thanjakan, Gajamukhan, and Dandakan troubled Parashara Maharishi, who seeks refuge in Lord Vishnu, and the lord appeared the three forms mentioned above and killed those three demons.
